Broken Social Scene @ HMV Forum, London – 30 Jun 2010

Just one photo from the set that I really like…

Sonar 2010 – Day 3

Sonar 2010 – Day 3

Yesterday was the final day of Sonar, and the photo above was taken at the last gig I watched, the Chemical Brothers. The photographers were allowed on a platform near the sound desk, and we were in the middle of the crowd, a few meters above ground. There was about 10 of us in a [...]

Sonar 2010 – Night 1 – 18th of June 2010

Sonar 2010 – Night 1 – 18th of June 2010

If Sonar by Day is a relaxed, pleasant, and almost family experience, Sonar by Night is another story. Try to think of the main stage as a really big warehouse, then times that by 4. Some really big names played that night: AIR, LCD Soundsystem, and… the Sugarhill Gang.

Sonar 2010 – Day 2

Sonar 2010 – Day 2

Second day of Sonar: New Young Pony Club, Delorean, the BBC introducing stage with Nedry & Shake Aletti and some candids, featuring Wonderwoman.

Sonar 2010 – Day 1

Sonar 2010 – Day 1

I’m in Barcelona for Sonar, a huge electronic music festival. I am taking pictures for The Line of Best Fit, and here are some of my favorites after Day 1.

Nedry (with Youth in Colour and Devilman) @ The Lexington, 29 Apr 2010

Nedry (with Youth in Colour and Devilman) @ The Lexington, 29 Apr 2010

Big show for my good friends of Nedry currently on tour around the UK. Youth in Colour and the Japanese duo Devilman were supporting. Big turnout and amazing set by Nedry, one of their best so far! Check out all the pictures from the night below: Nedry, (w/ Youth in Colour, Devilman) @ The Lexington, [...]

Basia Bulat @ The Luminaire, London, 26 Apr 2010

Basia Bulat @ The Luminaire, London, 26 Apr 2010

Amazing night in an amazing venue that is The Luminaire. Plush seats, very good sound and respectful crowd, it’s pretty much the opposite of The Good Ship located a few meters away. Basia Bulat gave an amazing performance and the two support acts, Spencer Mclean and Paul Frith, weren’t too shabby either. See the full [...]

The Album Leaf @ Bush Hall, London, 23 Mar 2010 (Support The Go Find)

The Album Leaf @ Bush Hall, London, 23 Mar 2010 (Support The Go Find)

A sold out gig at Bush Hall for The Album Leaf supported by The Go Find. For some reason, everyone was in a jolly mood, from the door person to the bouncers, and people seemed to come in and out of the venue as if it was a friend’s (big) home. I, on the other [...]

So So Modern & Race Horses @ Scala, London, 04 Mar 2010

So So Modern & Race Horses @ Scala, London, 04 Mar 2010

So So Modern and Race Horses were the two support bands for Errors that night. Great energy from from So So Modern (who just released their album), not that thrilled by Race Horses who sounded a bit like the Grease soundtrack.

Huw Stephens’ Introducing @ The Social, London, 09 Mar 2010

Huw Stephens’ Introducing @ The Social, London, 09 Mar 2010

The Social was full for BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens ‘Introducing’ night. Cosy venue but horrible lighting (ie, non existent apart from those yellow walls). First up was the Liverpool duo Capac, followed by my good friends Nedry. Different style to finish with the latest Rough Trade Records recruit Wilder. Speaking of Wilder, there [...]

Errors @ Scala, 04 Mar 2010

Errors @ Scala, 04 Mar 2010

I absolutely love the band Errors and they deserve way more attention than they are getting. It’s electronic yes, but also subtle and happy, in a non cheesy way. Those are the pictures I took at their London gig at Scala.

Local Natives @ Heaven, 02 Mar 2010

Local Natives @ Heaven, 02 Mar 2010

The LA band Local Natives were headlining at Heaven (which by the way has a really good live programmation). Great energy, and great moustache. Be sure to also check out the cute and moody Peggy Sue who were supporting.

Peggy Sue @ Heaven, 2 Mar 2010

Peggy Sue @ Heaven, 2 Mar 2010

Peggy Sue was supporting Local Natives at Heaven in London. Really good vocals and harmonies but I would have liked a few more smiley faces…

Hildur Gudnadottir & Iarla O Lionaird @ Kings Place, 27 Feb 2010

Hildur Gudnadottir & Iarla O Lionaird @ Kings Place, 27 Feb 2010

The icelandic cellist Hildur Gudnadottir and the irish singer Iarla O Lionaird were performing this Saturday, as part of The Bubbly Blue and Green festival. The festival took place at Kings Place, a fairly recent venue near King’s Cross with an excellent acoustic.

Auriol Promo Shoot @ Battersea Park, London

Auriol Promo Shoot @ Battersea Park, London

Auriol is a professional singer whom you might have seen on this blog in a very different situation… One Sunday, we went to Battersea Park to take some photos for her business cards, her coming website, and a generic poster that I designed as well (see at the end of the page).

Fuaim – Ucess Lounge, Harajuku, Tokyo

Fuaim – Ucess Lounge, Harajuku, Tokyo

I am back from my Japan trip with Nedry, and it is now time to go properly through all the pictures, sounds and videos. I start easy with some shots from the band Fuaim, who played with Nedry at the Ucess Lounge in Harajuku, Tokyo.

Nedry – Condors, Japan Edition

Nedry – Condors, Japan Edition

Nedry ran out of CDs of their latest album Condors on the Japan tour, so we decided to create a special edition CD. The cover is one of the photos that I took during the first Japan gig. Here it is: I am quite happy that we used a photo from the Japan trip, did [...]

Japan – Harajuku, Tokyo

Japan – Harajuku, Tokyo

A few photos from Nedry’s gig in Harajuku in Tokyo. I was a bit disappointed as we did not see that many lolitas hanging about in the streets, but it was still an interesting area, and an awesome venue.

Les Nuits du Piano – Miho Nagata

Les Nuits du Piano – Miho Nagata

I am currently in France, helping organizing Les Nuits du Piano, and of course taking a lot of pictures. It’s a classical music festival, with four solo pianists playing. Miho Nagata (pictured) is playing tonight, so come check it out if you’re in the area! Nuits du Piano – Miho Nagata pre concert – Images [...]

Rim Shots – Please vote for me in the Photography.Book.Now competition

Rim Shots – Please vote for me in the Photography.Book.Now competition

I’ve self-published a book called ‘Rim Shots’ on Blurb, and entered the Photography.Book.Now competition. This book is a collection of gig photographs taken in London over the last 2 years, and a tribute to those small bands that may become big one day. I focused on the dark atmosphere and the dim light that you [...]

Renegade Sound, Promo Shoot, Brick Lane, London

Renegade Sound, Promo Shoot, Brick Lane, London

You know a band is motivated when they (almost) all show up on time, at 9am on a Saturday morning. I had the perfect location in mind, near this vegan bustaurant but it turned out it was private property (“Don’t you see all the cameras?” said the security dude – right, that’s obviously a criteria [...]

Fallenfest @ La Cigale, Paris – Stoned Popes, 2009 Winners

Fallenfest @ La Cigale, Paris – Stoned Popes, 2009 Winners

I heard about the Fallenfest festival through Thomas, a friend of mine trumpetist in Stoned Popes. Fallenfest is a competition for upcoming bands in Paris and its area. They get to play at really nice venues as they progress through the competition, and this year, the final leg was at La Cigale, a major venue [...]

The Marvis in Black&White @ Monto Water Rats, 23 May 2009

The Marvis in Black&White @ Monto Water Rats, 23 May 2009

I’ve taken a lot of photos of The Marvis, and also a lot of photos at Monto Water Rats so I thought that it would be good to have some kind of consistency on this set, rather than the usual sepia/colour/black&white. So they’re all black&white. I like the extra sharpness on the shots taken with [...]

Nedry @ The Good Ship, 22 May 2009

Nedry @ The Good Ship, 22 May 2009

The awesome Nedry built up in intensity as the set went along, Ayu’s fantastic voice supplementing Matt and Chris’s catchy beats. Read my review of the gig here.
