So So Modern & Race Horses @ Scala, London, 04 Mar 2010

So So Modern and Race Horses were the two support bands for Errors that night. Great energy from from So So Modern (who just released their album), not that thrilled by Race Horses who sounded a bit like the Grease soundtrack.
Errors @ Scala, 04 Mar 2010

I absolutely love the band Errors and they deserve way more attention than they are getting.
It’s electronic yes, but also subtle and happy, in a non cheesy way. Those are the pictures I took at their London gig at Scala.
Local Natives @ Heaven, 02 Mar 2010

The LA band Local Natives were headlining at Heaven (which by the way has a really good live programmation). Great energy, and great moustache. Be sure to also check out the cute and moody Peggy Sue who were supporting.
Peggy Sue @ Heaven, 2 Mar 2010

Peggy Sue was supporting Local Natives at Heaven in London. Really good vocals and harmonies but I would have liked a few more smiley faces…
Hildur Gudnadottir & Iarla O Lionaird @ Kings Place, 27 Feb 2010

The icelandic cellist Hildur Gudnadottir and the irish singer Iarla O Lionaird were performing this Saturday, as part of The Bubbly Blue and Green festival. The festival took place at Kings Place, a fairly recent venue near King’s Cross with an excellent acoustic.
Peter Brotzmann @ Cafe Oto, Hackney

Peter Brotzmann is a key figure in free Jazz, and delivered an intense (to say the least…) set at Cafe Oto, in Hackney.
It’s snowing in London!

I had felt a bit unprepared when it happened last year, so I have had my gear ready in preparation of this year, and replaced the D200 by a D700.
Rim Shots – Please vote for me in the Photography.Book.Now competition

I’ve self-published a book called ‘Rim Shots’ on Blurb, and entered the Photography.Book.Now competition. This book is a collection of gig photographs taken in London over the last 2 years, and a tribute to those small bands that may become big one day.
I focused on the dark atmosphere and the dim light that you find [...]
Renegade Sound, Promo Shoot, Brick Lane, London

You know a band is motivated when they (almost) all show up on time, at 9am on a Saturday morning. I had the perfect location in mind, near this vegan bustaurant but it turned out it was private property (“Don’t you see all the cameras?” said the security dude – right, that’s obviously a criteria [...]
Nedry @ The Dublin Castle, 14 Jun 2009

Staying in the dark black&white mood from the last post. I liked the lights at this Nedry gig, very different from the one at the Good Ship.
Good crowd turn out, tighter set, things are coming together at a steady pace, and I can’t wait for their album to come out (August!).
The Marvis in Black&White @ Monto Water Rats, 23 May 2009

I’ve taken a lot of photos of The Marvis, and also a lot of photos at Monto Water Rats so I thought that it would be good to have some kind of consistency on this set, rather than the usual sepia/colour/black&white. So they’re all black&white.
I like the extra sharpness on the shots taken with the [...]
Seiji and his band, the Tower Tavern, 23 May 2009

Funny story here: I bumped into Seiji on my way to shoot another gig, The Marvis, playing at Monto Water Rats. Now, I used to play with The Marvis (I was the drummer) and guess what, so did Seiji, who was the drummer after me.
He no longer plays with them either and found this [...]
Nedry @ The Good Ship, 22 May 2009

The awesome Nedry built up in intensity as the set went along, Ayu’s fantastic voice supplementing Matt and Chris’s catchy beats.
Read my review of the gig here.
Voynaru @ The Cross Kings, 10 May 2009

Witchy is the word that comes to mind when you first hear and see Voynaru. They gave for their first gig a very original performance, using powerful strings (cello & violin), subtle and steady drums, and transe-like vocals (by Ayu Okakita, whom you can also hear in a different style with Nedry).
They are not the [...]
Nedry @ Ginglik, 9th May 2009

Nedry is a fantastic band. Matt and Chris take you to some fantastic place between Air and Boards of Canada, and Ayu gently adds her mesmerizing voice.
1 Poultry

I’m healthily obsessed with this building situated just in front of Bank station.
I like its colors and I love its CCTV camera.
If you like this sequence, you might also enjoy the others, on flickr.
Reclaim your camera – Small photography lesson around the City

Several friends of mine have recently invested in a brand new SLR and asked me if I could teach them the ‘basics’ of photography. Since there were several, I decided it would be easier and more fun to do a little group session. This is all happening in London, on the 19th of May 2009, [...]
Victoria Street Facades

Those facades in Victoria Street don’t get many looks, as tourists are usually passing by on their way to Buckingham Palace. Give it a cloudy day though and they become intriguing and slightly threatening shapes.
Night Protest

Taken in Parliament Square, where the Tamils have been gathering for the past few weeks. (See also the pictures from the protest the next day).
I was out testing the D700 on low-light conditions. As you can see, this is 1600 ISO and it looks pretty damn sweet…
The Renegade Sound @ Monto Water Rats, 17 Apr 2009

After Buried in Mexico and Dobramind, The Renegade Sound took the stage for a raw and powerful set.
Dobramind @ Monto Water Rats, 17 Apr 2009

Dobramind had a way more chillaxed style than Buried in Mexico. Interesting and steady rythm section (drums + percussion), ambient singing, and a strong presence on stage made their set a pleasure to watch.
