Zoe, Ria and Daniel in the studio

I recently had the pleasure to have a little photo session with Ria (who is 7 months pregnant), Daniel, and their lovely daughter Zoe.

New York Diary – Graduation Day

New York Diary – Graduation Day

The weather was horrendous for my sister‘s graduation. I got a few umbrella pics and then had to retreat hastily under my shelter / plastic bag…

New York Diary – Day 1

New York Diary – Day 1

I’m in New York for a week, and the last time I was here, I hadn’t really started taking pictures… It’s quite daunting but at the same time I’m quite excited to be here!

Two simple examples of off-camera flash (with diagrams!)

Two simple examples of off-camera flash (with diagrams!)

I took the opportunity of having my long-time friend Antoine visiting me to try a few off-camera lighting set-ups.

Playing with a Diana F+

Playing with a Diana F+

Despite the fear of hipsterizing myself, I recently acquired a Diana F+, one of those plastic 60′s film cameras re-edited by Lomography and sold with a (probably) huge markup by Urban Outfitters. I have been almost exclusively digital until now, and it’s a refreshing experience… I bought five rolls of film, ISO 400, messed up [...]

Bikes

Bikes

I hate riding a bike. That’s why I like to see one leaning against a wall or chained to a post; it makes me feel safe. A few other pictures from my walk near Victoria Park below.

Geek Talk – Photoshelter

Geek Talk – Photoshelter

Prompted by the Photoshelter blog, this is a little article to explain how my website works and how I use Photoshelter to show my work and deliver photos to my clients. Different types of client My two main specialties are weddings and live music photography. I use Photoshelter for both but in different ways: Music [...]

Platform

Platform

Waiting for a train late at night, and going to the end of the platform where the light is cold.

It’s snowing in London!

It’s snowing in London!

I had felt a bit unprepared when it happened last year, so I have had my gear ready in preparation of this year, and replaced the D200 by a D700.

Transition

Transition

I have entered a quiet phase on the shooting side and this has allowed me to focus on off camera things like:

Mumbai – Night, Taxi, Rain from onedayforever on Vimeo. I’m in Mumbai for non-photographic purposes, and most of my free time is spent in taxis, especially when it rains. I thought I should make the most out of that time and filmed + took pictures.

Makoto Inoue, Mime Artist

Makoto Inoue, Mime Artist

In between Fuaim and Nedry was… a mime, Makoto Inoue. This is the kind of setlist I have never seen in London, probably because the audience wouldn’t really give it the attention it deserves. His set was very physical, and I got into it very quickly and unexpectedly. Once he starts, you forget that he [...]

In Japan, I wish I did not have to sleep

In Japan, I wish I did not have to sleep

I am currently following Nedry‘s tour in Japan, and it has been absolutely brilliant, despite being constantly pushed by time. The days are similar in their planning (transport mayhem, soundcheck, eat, play, drink, drink, blog, sleep) and yet so different. My senses are overloaded with faces, places, sounds. I am always tired and constantly carrying [...]

Siracuse, Sicily

Siracuse, Sicily

Photos from my trip to Sicily in June. They are mostly taken in Ortigia, Siracuse‘s peninsula.

Valletta, Malta

Valletta, Malta

A few shots I took in Valetta, Malta, en route to Sicily. It is extremely hot during the day (at least compared to London!) but you can get some nice shadows at the end of the afternoon (cf 133 below). The city is really strange, there is one horribly touristic main street and the rest [...]

King's Cross, or why you should go to the end of that platform (and turn around)

King's Cross, or why you should go to the end of that platform (and turn around)

After a profitable day at the races with Bene and some friends (our flawless tactic: bet on the four biggest nags on each race and hope that one of them gets in the top 3), it’s the train back to London through the English countryside. The sky has been cloudy but intense all day, and [...]

Les Nuits du Piano – Miho Nagata

Les Nuits du Piano – Miho Nagata

I am currently in France, helping organizing Les Nuits du Piano, and of course taking a lot of pictures. It’s a classical music festival, with four solo pianists playing. Miho Nagata (pictured) is playing tonight, so come check it out if you’re in the area! Nuits du Piano – Miho Nagata pre concert – Images [...]

Rim Shots – Please vote for me in the Photography.Book.Now competition

I’ve self-published a book called ‘Rim Shots’ on Blurb, and entered the Photography.Book.Now competition. This book is a collection of gig photographs taken in London over the last 2 years, and a tribute to those small bands that may become big one day. I focused on the dark atmosphere and the dim light that you [...]

Sequence – House Portraits

Sequence – House Portraits

Improvised “studio” in my living room. Better done at the end of the night. Settings: It’s not what you would call a strobist masterpiece, but there you go: Nikon D700 + 24-70 f/2.8 | 1/60sec at f/5.6 | ISO 1100 | SB-800 on camera (making this not a strobist set-up at all) with some kind [...]

Car Park – Malta International Airport

Car Park – Malta International Airport

I spotted this empty car park from the bus, and liked its yellow lines under the blue maltese sky. Wandering around an airport with an SLR is probably one of the best way to get arrested and miss one’s flight, so I was very quick, almost instinctive, and I hope the pictures go well together.
