Staying in the dark black&white mood from the last post. I liked the lights at this Nedry gig, very different from the one at the Good Ship.

Good crowd turn out, tighter set, things are coming together at a steady pace, and I can’t wait for their album to come out (August!).

Scroll down for the shooting notes.

Shooting notes:

  • 50mm or 24-70mm?
  • I started off with the 24-70 f/2.8, then freaked out suddenly for no real reason and switched to the 50mm f/1.8. I chillaxed for a bit, then went back to the 24-70. Overall I did about 2/3 with the 24-70mm and 1/3 with the 50mm. I was curious to see the proportion after the editing, and it was half-half. I’m not jumping to conclusions because I don’t think the sample is big enough, but still interesting to see there’s no real skew towards one or the other, even though the 50mm has seemingly less ‘rejects’ than the 24-70.

  • 3200? Really?
  • I still find myself having trouble to shoot at 3200 in a “casual” way, I always think I’m doing something dodgy, almost forbidden. However, being at 3200 gave me some freedom, as shown in the photo of Ayu on the right above: 1/100sec gave me the sharpness, and f/4 the details in the hair. I think next time I’ll just start the gig at 3200 ISO, just to force myself to realize that yes, the pictures will be usable!
